Tennis trio earns all-conference honors

Three members of Hanover College's women's tennis team have earned all-league honors from the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Juniors Katie Fleschner (Terre Haute, Ind.) and Ali Gantz (Greenwood, Ind.), along with freshman Angela Parry-Lemon (Columbia City, Ind.), were each selected to the all-Heartland Conference team by the league's head coaches.

Fleschner was named to the squad for the third consecutive year. She posted a 4-1 record at No. 1 singles for the Panthers during the 2007 campaign.

She teamed with Gantz for a 5-0 record in matches at No. 1 doubles.

Gantz also is a three-time all-conference honoree. She was 6-5 in singles action this season, including stints at both No. 1 and No. 2.

Overall, she posted a 7-3 doubles record, including matches with Fleschner and Parry-Lemon at No. 1.

Parry-Lemon earned a spot on the all-conference squad after notching a 6-5 singles record during her first collegiate season. She captured first place at No. 3 singles in the HCAC's individual flights tournament.

Parry-Lemon was 5-6 overall in doubles play, teaming with Gantz and junior Madison Basch (Southport, Ind.) at Nos. 1-2 during the season .

Hanover closed its 2007 season with a 6-7 overall record. The Panthers, under head coach Michelle Allmendinger, were 5-3 in the Heartland Conference.

Hanover caps season in HCAC tournament

Hanover College's women's tennis team closed its 2007 season with a 5-1 loss to Manchester College in the opening round of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference's four-team championship tournament.

Manchester, which went on to capture its sixth straight HCAC title, earned the league's automatic berth in the NCAA Division III national tournament with victories in three doubles matches and two singles matches.

Juniors Katie Fleschner (Terre Haute, Ind.) and Ali Gantz (Greenwood, Ind.) opened an early lead but eventually dropped a 9-7 decision to Manchester's Milagros Ridoutt and Sarah Conwell at No. 1 doubles.

At No. 2 doubles, junior Madison Basch (Southport, Ind.) and freshman Angela Parry-Lemon (Columbia City, Ind.) were handled by the Spartans' Jordin Youst and Christa Hunter, 8-2.

Sophomores Aly Ernstberger (New Albany, Ind.) and Courtney Hyde (Prospect, Ky.) fell 8-4 to Manchester's Jessica Mertz and Danielle Walker at No. 3 doubles.

Hanover picked up its lone victory with a default win at No. 3 singles for Parry-Lemon. Hunter defaulted with Parry-Lemon holding a 3-0 lead.

The two completed singles matches included Basch and Hyde falling at Nos. four and six. Basch lost to Youst at No. 4, while Hyde fell to Walker at No. 6.

Bellarmine handles net squad, 8-1

The Hanover College women's tennis team's losing streak jumped to three matches with an 8-1 loss to Bellarmine University (Ky.), Thursday, Oct. 4, in Louisville, Ky.

Junior Ali Gantz (Greenwood, Ind.) and freshman Angie Parry-Lemon (Columbia City, Ind.) earned the Panthers' only victory. The duo posted an 8-4 win against Bellarmine's Sarah Roebker and Elizabeth Bohnert at No. 1 doubles.

Panthers drop two HCAC matches at home

The Hanover College women's squad's three-match winning streak came to a screeching halt with a pair of losses in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference matches. The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and Franklin College each handed the Panthers 8-1 setbacks, Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Varsity Courts.

Freshman Angie Parry-Lemon (Columbia City, Ind.) posted Hanover's lone victory in the loss to Rose-Hulman. Parry-Lemon defeated the Engineers' Mandy Grantz, 6-1, 6-3, in a battle at No. 2 singles.

Junior Ali Gantz (Greenwood, Ind.) recorded the Panthes' only win in the loss to Franklin. Gantz, playing in the No. 1 singles spot, knocked off the Grizzlies' Morgan Bright, 6-2, 6-2.

Panthers' winning streak hits three

The Hanover College women's tennis team pushed its winning streak to three matches with a 9-0 victory against Thomas More College (Ky.), Wednesday, Sept. 19, at the Varsity Courts.

Hanover improved to 4-2 on the season by sweeping all six singles matches and each of the three doubles matches from the Saints.

Junior Ali Gantz (Greenwood, Ind.), playing in the No. 1 singles position, posted a 6-1, 6-0, triumph against Thomas More's Alma Murga to lead the Panthers' effort.

Freshman Stephanie Collins (Mount Vernon, Ind.) and sophomore Becky Klimaszewski (Indianapolis, Ind.) each notched singles' victories for Hanover in their first matches of the season.

Junior Madison Basch (Southport, Ind.) teamed with freshman Angie Parry-Lemon (Columbia City, Ind.) for an 8-3 win against Murga and Monica Pharo in the No. 1 doubles tilt.

Newcomers Toni Baysinger (Rolling Prairies, Ind.) and Akami Marquis (Burlington, Ky.) combined for an 8-5 victory against the Saints' Brittaney Knapp and Winnie Moore at No. 3.

Fleschner tabbed HCAC player of the week

Hanover College junior Katie Fleschner (Terre Haute, Ind.) has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference's women's tennis player of the week for the period ended Sept. 16.

Fleschner powered Hanover to a 2-1 record during the week with victories in three singles matches and a trio of doubles matches.

Playing in the No. 1 singles spot, Fleschner defeated Indiana University Southeast's Britta Oliver, 8-1, in the Panthers' 7-2 loss to the Grenadiers Sept. 13.

She paired with junior Ali Gantz (Greenwood, Ind.) for an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles against IU Southeast's Jillian Becher and Jenna Richie.

Fleschner posted two Heartland Conference singles' wins and teamed with Gantz for a pair of doubles victories Sept. 15.

She handled the College of Mount St. Joseph's Judy Frey, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 1 during Hanover's 8-1 triumph against the Lions. She combined with Gantz for an 8-4 win against Frey and Brittany Teagle in the No. 1 doubles battle.

Fleschner defeated Anderson University's Rachel Makin, 7-5, 6-1, in the Panthers' 8-1 victory against the Ravens. She paired with Gantz for an 8-2 win against Makin and Becky Curtis at No. 1 doubles.

Hanover is 3-2 overall this season. The Panthers have a 3-1 mark in Heartland Conference matches.

Panthers earn pair of HCAC victories

The Hanover College women's tennis team picked up two Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference victories Saturday, Sept. 15, at the Varsity Courts. The Panthers, now 3-2 on the season, handled both the College of Mount St. Joseph (Ohio) and Anderson University by 8-1 scores.

Hanover swept all six singles matches against Mount St. Joseph. Junior Ali Gantz (Greenwood, Ind.), playing at No. 2, and freshman Angie Parry-Lemon (Columbia City, Ind.), in the No. 3 slot, each earned 6-0, 6-0 wins in singles action. Sophomore Courtney Hyde (Prospect, Ky.) rallied for a 6-2, 1-6 (10-8), victory at No. 6.

The Panthers captured wins in all three doubles matches and earned two hard-fought wins at Nos. 5-6 singles to defeat Anderson.

Sophomore Aly Ernstberger (New Albany, Ind.) picked up a 6-3, 2-6 (10-5), win against Anderson's Katie Porter at No. 5. Hyde held off the Ravens' Emily Thompson, 4-6, 6-4 (10-7), for her second singles triumph of the day.

Hanover drops match to IU Southeast

Hanover College's women's tennis team dropped a non-conference match to Indiana Unviersity Southeast, Thursday, Sept 13, at the Varsity Courts. The Grenadiers handled the Panthers, 7-2.

Junior Katie Fleschner (Terre Haute, Ind.) posted an 8-1 victory against IU Southeast's Britta Oliver at No. 1 singles.

Netters split HCAC matches to open season

The Hanover College women's tennis squad launched its 2007 season by splitting two Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference matches. The Panthers squared off against Manchester College and Defiance College (Ohio), Saturday, Sept. 1, in North Manchester, Ind.

Hanover blanked Defiance, 9-0, in the opener. The Panthers dropped a 7-2 decision to Manchester in the finale.

Sophomore Aly Ernstberger (New Albany, Ind.) earned two singles wins and juniors Katie Fleschner (Terre Haute, Ind.) and Ali Gantz (Greenwood, Ind.) paired for two doubles victories to pace Hanover (1-1).

Ernstberger, playing in the No. 6 singles slot, handled Defiance's Britney Martin, 6-0, 6-0. She later held off Manchester's Nikki Ferguson, 6-7, 6-3, 10-3.

Fleschner and Gantz, each two-time all-HCAC selections, posted an 8-4 win against Defiance's Emily Meyer and Amanda Auzins in the No. 1 doubles battle. The duo later edged Manchester's Mili Ridoutt and Sarah Conwell, 8-6.
