Hanover falls to Transy in HCAC semis
The Hanover College men's soccer team's dropped a 2-1 decision to Transylvania University (Ky.) in the semifinals of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament. The match was played Tuesday, Oct. 30, in Lexington, Ky.
Transylvania (14-2-1), the tournament's top seed, outshot Hanover by a 23-4 margin, but needed two overtimes to advance to the HCAC title match.
After a scoreless first period, the Pioneers' Stu Hampson ended the drought with a goal in the 57th minute. The goal assisted by Ryan Wood, was Hamson's seventh of the season.
Hanover countered 10 minutes later. Sophomore midfielder Andrew Illnick (Louisville, Ky.) scored an unassisted goal in the 67th minute to knot the game at 1-1.
Transylvania outshot Hanover 6-1 through the two overtime periods. The Pioneers' Andrew Zemanski netted the game-winner in the 106th minute with a shot into the lower left corner of the net.
Sophomore goalie Michael Hansford (Liberty Township, Ohio) notched eight saves for Hanover (5-12-1).

Rose-Hulman edges Panthers in soccer tilt
The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology held on to post a 1-0 victory against the Hanover College men's soccer team in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference match Saturday, Oct. 27, at the L.S. Ayres Athletic Complex.
Hanover outshot Rose-Hulman 18-12, including a 13-7 edge on shots in the second period. The Engineers' Rhys Evans scored the match's lone goal in the 64th minute off a pass from Corbin Clow.
Sophomore goaltender Michael Hansford (Liberty Township, Ohio) turned away five shots for Hanover. Goalie Trey Buck had eight saves for Rose-Hulman (12-6-1; 6-1-1 HCAC).
Hanover (5-11-1; 3-4-1 HCAC) will be the No. 4 seed in the four-team Heartland Conference tournament, which begins Tuesday, Oct. 30. The Panthers will face top-seeded Transylvania University (13-2-1) in Lexington, Ky.

Junior forward Jason Darling (Lexington, Ky.) scored with 34 seconds left in regulation to give Hanover College's men's soccer team a 1-1 double-overtime tie with Transylvania University (Ky.). The goal was the third of the season for Darling, who netted a ball off the foot of junior midfielder Shane Henshaw (Shelbyville, Ky.) during a last-ditched rush into the box by the Panthers.
Corey Dillow gave Transylvania a 1-0 lead just eight minutes into the contest. Dillow chipped a shot out of a crowd in front of the net past Hanover goalie Michael Hansford (Liberty Township, Ohio).
The Panthers' defense held Transylvania scoreless for the final 102 minutes of the contest. The Pioneers (12-2-1; 6-0-1 HCAC) entered the match ranked seventh nationally.
Transylvania outshot Hanover by a 24-14 margin, including a 7-1 advantage in shots through the two overtimes. Hansford collected seven saves for the Panthers, now 5-10-1 overall and 3-3-1 in the HCAC.

Early goal holds up in men's soccer win
Hanover College's men's soccer team recorded its second consecutive victory by notching a 1-0 win against Defiance College (Ohio) in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference tilt, Saturday, Oct. 20, in Defiance, Ohio.
Sophomore midfielder Zach Fleischer (Lexington, Ky.) scored the lone goal of the match in just the fourth minute of play off a corner kick by junior midfielder Shane Henshaw (Shelbyville, Ky.).
The goal was Fleischer's second of the season. The assist marked Henshaw's ninth point in Hanover's last six matches. Henshaw has four goals and an assist in that span.
Hanover totaled 24 shots in the contest. The Panthers' defense limited Defiance (3-11-1; 2-3-1 HCAC) to just nine attempts.
Sophomore goalie Michael Hansford (Liberty Township, Ohio), back after sitting out one match, had six saves for Hanover (5-10; 3-3 HCAC).

Laker's hat trick sparks Hanover victory
Junior defender Kyle Laker (Oldenburg, Ind.) scored three goals to help lead Hanover College's men's soccer team to a 7-1 victory against Berea College (Ky.). The contest was played Tuesday, Oct. 16, at the L.S. Ayres Athletic Complex.

Jonathan Hunt scored an unassisted goal in just the second minute of play to give Berea and early lead. Hanover countered in the third minute when sophomore midfielder Andrew Illnick (Louisville, Ky.) hit the back of the net to tie the match.
The Panthers (4-10) blew the game open with six goals in the second period.
Laker scored in the 55th and 61st minutes to give Hanover a 3-1 cushion. He completed the hat trick with another goal in the 78th minute.
Freshman defender Jonathan Presley (Sunman, Ind.) scored his first collegiate goal with a tally in the 62nd minute. Sophomore midfielder Miles Kroner (Cincinnati, Ohio) netted his first goal of the season and senior forward Seyram Kekessie (Accra, Ghana) add a goal for the Panthers.
Junior Shane Henshaw (Shelbyville, Ky.) made his first collegiate start in goal for Hanover. Henshaw turned away two shots.
The Panthers outshot Berea (3-8) by a 27-3 margin.

Manchester edges Panthers in overtime
Manchester College's Parker Swanson scored the game-winning goal five minutes into overtime to lift the Spartans to a 2-1 victory against Hanover College's men's soccer team. The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference match was played Saturday, Oct. 13, at the L.S. Ayres Athletic Complex.
After a scoreless first half, Manchester grabbed a 1-0 lead on Tyler Yeager's unassisted goal in the 46th minute.
Hanover answered in the 78th minute when junior midfielder Shane Henshaw (Shelbyville, Ky.) found the back of the net off a pass from junior midfielder Jordan Carroll (New Albany, Ind.).
Swanson netted the game-winner off an assist from the Spartans' Brian Huss.

Panthers edged in HCAC tilt at MSJ
Hanover College's men's soccer squad's record dipped to 2-2 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference with a 2-1 loss to the College of Mount St. Joseph (Ohio), Tuesday, Oct. 9, in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Hanover, now 3-9 overall this season, outshot the Lions 21-7, but trailed until the final four minutes of the contest.
Junior midfielder Shane Henshaw (Shelbyville, Ky.) scored an unassisted goal in the 87th minute to spoil Mount St. Joseph's bid for a shutout.
Chas Roots scored in the 43rd minute to get the Lions on the scoreboard. The Mount's Brian Thesing added an unassisted goal in the 55th minute to give the Lions (2-11; 1-3 HCAC) a two-goal cushion

Franklin College scored a goal in the final 10 seconds of regulation and eventually defeated Hanover College's men's soccer squad, 3-2, in two overtimes, Wednesday, Oct. 3, in Franklin, Ind.

Junior midfielder Shane Henshaw (Shelbyville, Ky.) scored two goals in a six-minute span to give Hanover a 2-1 lead with 13 minutes to play. Henshaw, who leads the Panthers with four goals this season, scored an unassisted goal in the 70th minute to tie the game at 1-1. He punched in a corner kick in the 76th minute.
Franklin's Cody Graman scored with just 10 seconds left on the clock to send the game into an extra session.
The Grizzlies' Michael Harwood netted the game-winner in the 109th minute. The goal was Harwood's fourth of the season.
Sophomore goaltender Michael Hansford (Liberty Township, Ohio) had five saves for Hanover, which outshot Franklin 16-13.

Hanover ends streak with win at Bluffton
Hanover College's men's soccer team kicked off its Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference schedule with a shutout victory against Bluffton University (Ohio). The Panthers posted a 3-0 victory against the Beavers Saturday, Sept. 29, in Bluffton, Ohio.
The triumph snapped a four-match losing streak for Hanover, which improved to 2-7 overall and 1-0 in the Heartland Conference. Bluffton fell to 1-7-1 overall and 0-2 in the league.
Junior defender Kyle Laker (Oldenburg, Ind.) netted his first goal of the season to give Hanover a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute. Junior defender Andrew Westendorf (Cincinnati, Ohio) scored his second goal of the season, an unassisted tally in the 40th minute, to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead at the intermission.
Junior defender Ben Spain (Richmond, Ky.) added an unassisted goal in the 79th minute for the final margin. The goal was Spain's first of the season.
Sophomore goalie Michael Hansford (Liberty Township, Ohio) stopped four shots for Hanover, which outshot Bluffton by an 18-13 margin.

Skid reaches three with loss to Marian
The Hanover College men's soccer team's losing streak reached three matches with a 3-1 setback against Marian College, Wednesday, Sept. 19, at the L.S. Ayres Athletic Complex.
Marian built a 1-0 lead in the first half and led 3-0 before Hanover avoided the shutout with a goal in the final two minutes.
Dallas Drew had a goal and an assist to spark Marian (5-1-2). Drew assisted on a goal by Jody Nicholson in the 39th minute and the Knights' Michael Foerster hit the back of the net in the 68th minute for a two-goal cushion.
Drew scored an unassited goal in the 81st minute to give Marian a 3-0 lead.
Hanover junior defender Andrew Westendorf (Cincinnati, Ohio) scored his first goal of the season in the 89th minute to end the Panthers' drought. Junior defender Ben Spain (Richmond, Ky.) assisted on the goal.

Earlham shuts out Panthers, 4-0
Earlham College handed Hanover College's men's soccer team its fifth loss of the season with a 4-0 decision, Saturday, Sept. 15, in Richmond, Ind.
Earlham (2-4) scored three goals in an 11-minute span to blow open a tight match. The Quakers' Victor Anciano scored a goal in the 40th minute to get Earlham on the board.
Anciano later assisted on goals in the 54th and 58th minutes. Earlham's Bannett Asingura scored the final goal in the 65th minute of action.
Hanover, now 1-5 overall, was outshot 18-8 in the match.
Goalie Michael Hansford (Liberty Township, Ohio), a sophomore, totaled 10 saves for the Panthers.

Bellarmine upends Hanover, 4-1
Bellarmine University (Ky.) built a three-goal lead in the first half and coasted to a 4-1 victory against Hanover College's men's soccer squad. The match was played Thursday, Sept. 13, in Louisville, Ky.
Bellarmine's Andrew Fitzgerald scored in the sixth minute to give the Knights an early lead. Ryan Lederman added a tally in the eighth minute. Fitzgerald assisted on a goal by Tyler Schaefering in the 39th minute for Bellarmine's three-goal cushion.
Hanover junior midfielder Shane Henshaw (Shelbyville, Ky.) scored on a header in the 64th minute to spoil the shutout. Junior defender Andrew Westendorf (Cincinnati, Ohio) assisted on Henshaw's second goal of the season.
Bellarmine fired 22 shots in the contest, while Hanover had seven shots.

Panthers blank Spalding to halt skid
Hanover College's men's soccer team grabbed its first victory of the 2007 season. The Panthers, now 1-3 overall, shut out Spalding University (Ky.), 4-0, Saturday, Sept. 8, at the L.S. Ayres Athletic Complex.
Sophomore midfielder A.J. Reynolds (Indianapolis, Ind.) put Hanover on the scoreboard, and netted the game-winner, off an assist from junior defender Andrew Westendorf (Cincinnati, Ohio) in the 39th minute.
Junior midfielder Shane Henshaw (Shelbyville, Ky.), sophomore midfielder Zach Fleischer (Lexington, Ky.) and junior forward Jason Darling (Lexington, Ky.) each adde goals for the Panthers, which outshot Spalding 13-8.

Thomas More blanks Panthers, 3-0
Thomas More College (Ky.) handed the Hanover College men's soccer team its third straight setback. The Saints handled the Panthers, 3-0, in a non-conference outing Tuesday, Sept. 4, at the L.S. Ayres Athletic Complex.
Hanover was outshot 17-11 by Thomas More, which improved to 2-0 on the season. Junior midfielder Ben Spain (Richmond, Ky.) had four shots for the Panthers.
The Saints grabbed a 1-0 lead with less than two minutes remaining in the opening half. Johnny Vorhees split two Hanover defenders and rolled the game-winner past sophomore goalie Michael Hansford (Liberty Township, Ohio).
Thomas More's John Wallace added an unassited goal in the 53rd minute. Aaron Osborne netted a tally in the 55th minute for the final margin.
Hansford posted six saves for the Panthers.

Hanover drops 3-1 decision to Centre
Hanover College's men's soccer team made its 2007 home debut with a 3-1 loss to Centre College (Ky.). The match was played Sunday, Sept. 2, at the L.S. Ayres Athletic Complex.
Junior forward Keyram Kekessie (Accra, Ghana) gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead with a goal off an assist from junior forward Jason Darling (Lexington, Ky.) in the 32nd minute. The goal was Kekessie's second in as many outings this season.
Centre knotted the match at 1-1 with Nick Judah's tally in the 41st minute. The Colonels' Adam Boyer scored the eventual game-winner off a pass from Chris Baumann in the 73rd minute.
Hanover managed just four shots in the contest and was outshot by a 17-4 margin. Sophomore goaltender Michael Hansford (Liberty Township, Ohio) had six saves for the Panthers.

Soccer season kicks off with OT setback
The Hanover College men's soccer squad kicked of its 2007 campaign with a 2-1overtime loss to Asbury College (Ky.). The match was played Friday, August 31, in Wilmore, Ky.
Junior forward Keyram Kekessie (Accra, Ghana) scored an unassisted goal in the 67th minute to tie the match at 1-1. Asbury's Nate DeFreitas netted the game-winner with three minutes left in the first overtime session to lift the Eagles to the victory.
Hanover was outshot 20-5 by Asbury (1-1). Sophomore goalie Michael Hansford (Liberty Township, Ohio) totaled six saves for the Panthers.

Panthers picked to finish in middle of HCAC
The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference’s nine men’s soccer coaches have tabbed Hanover College to place in the middle of the pack in the battle for the 2007 conference championship.

The Panthers, guided by head coach Craig Jones, earned 46 points in a polling of the league’s coaches. Hanover, 8-8-3 last season, has just one senior on the roster, but returns 11 veteran juniors.
Junior defender Kyle Laker (Oldenburg, Ind.) and sophomore goalie Michael Hansford (Liberty Township, Ohio) anchor Hanover's defense. The players were each all-conference selections for the Panthers in 2006.
Hansford played in all 19 of Hanover's matches and had three shutouts during the season. He was second in the conference with 6.25 saves per match and allowed 1.66 goals per outing with a .788 save percentage.
Junior Seyram Kekessie (Accra, Ghana), a forward, is the squad’s top returning scorer. Kekessie, with 17 points last season, posted eight goals and an assist.
Transylvania University (Ky.) was tabbed to win its third consecutive league title. The Pioneers, 14-3-1 in 2006, picked up 77 points in the balloting, including seven first-place votes.
Hanover kicks off its 2007 season Friday, August 31, on the road against Asbury College (Ky.). The Panthers’ home debut will be Sunday, Sept. 2, against Centre College (Ky.).
