Hanover rolls to 13th Collier championship
Four players reached double figures to help propel Hanover College's men's basketball team to a 79-62 victory against Shawnee State University (Ohio) in the championship of the 15th-annual John R. Collier tournament. The title game was played Sunday, Nov. 25, in Collier Arena.

Senior guard Clint Parker (Brownstown, Ind), who was named the tournament's most valuable player, scored 15 points and dished out four assists to lead the Panthers to the program's 13th Collier crown.
Senior swingman Marc O'Leary (Terre Haute, Ind.) and sophomore guard Jake Inman (North Vernon, Ind.) were each named to the all-tournament squad. O'Leary scored 15 points, while Inman added 11 points for Hanover (4-1).
Freshman forward Mitchell Meyer (New Albany, Ind.) added 15 points and 10 rebounds. Junior forward Dan O'Leary (Terre Haute, Ind.), named the event's top defensive player, added eight points and four boards for the Panthers.
Senior guard Josh Reed led Shawnee State with 16 points. Reed represented the Bears (4-2) on the all-tournament squad.
Hanover canned 15 three-pointers in the outing and shot 50 percent from long range (15-of-30). The Panthers earned a 28-24 advantage on the glass and forced 16 turnovers.
In the consolation game, Olivet College (Mich.) outlasted Brescia University (Ky.), 90-85, to win the third-place contest.
Freshman center Michael McClary scored 21 points and grabbed a game-high 15 boards to lead Olivet (2-3). Senior guard Brandon Way, who was named to the all-tournament squad, added 17 points for the Comets.
Sophomore guard Andrew Howard netted 31 points to pace Brescia. Junior guard Anthony McNeal, a member of the all-tourney team, added 27 points and seven rebounds for the Bearcats (2-5).

Hanover advances to Collier tourney finale
Hanover College's men's basketball squad advanced to the championship game of the 15th-annual John R. Collier Tournament with a 68-64 victory against Olivet College (Mich.). The 2007 edition of the event tipped off Saturday, Nov. 24, in Collier Arena.

Senior guard Clint Parker (Brownstown, Ind.) scored 17 points and senior center Robby Brown (Cincinnati, Ohio) added 14 points and a game-high eight rebounds for Hanover, which earned a spot in the tournament finale for the 14th time. The Panthers have won 12 Collier titles.
Hanover (3-1) led by as many as nine points (29-20) in the first half, but the contest was a two-possession game throughout the second period.
Brown pulled Hanover even at 60-60 on a lay-in with 2:58 to go. He converted a three-point play with 2:17 left to give the Panthers a 63-60 cushion.
Olivet (1-3) cut the margin to a single point twice in the final minute. Sophomore guard Jake Inman (North Vernon, Ind.) gave Hanover a 66-64 lead with a free throw with 18 seconds on the clock. Parker hit 2-of-2 charity tosses with four seconds remaining for the final margin.
Hanover will meet Shawnee State University (Ohio) in the championship game. The Bears (4-1) advanced to the finale with an 83-54 victory against Brescia University (Ky.).
Senior guard Josh Reed scored a game-best 21 points and junior forward Justin Patrick added 18 points off the bench for Shawnee State, which outscored Brescia (2-4) in the second half, 51-24, to pull away for the triumph.

Late run lifts Hanover to win against Wabash
Hanover College's men's basketball team used a late second-half rally to earn a 68-63 win against Wabash College. The contest was held Monday, Nov. 19, in Collier Arena.

Senior forward Marc O'Leary (Terre Haute, Ind.) scored a game-high 20 points and senior center Robby Brown (Cincinnati, Ohio) notched his second double-double of the season to lead Hanover (2-1).
Brown scored 12 points and pulled down 13 rebounds for the Panthers. Senior guard Clint Parker (Brownstown, Ind.) added 12 points and four assists.
Wabash (1-2) outscored Hanover 13-5 to build a 43-34 advantage five minutes into the second half. The Little Giants led 46-37 at the 12:37 mark before the Panthers mounted a charge.
Parker hit back-to-back three-pointers and O'Leary scored eight points as Hanover used a 23-11 run to bolt ahead 62-57 with two minutes remaining. Brown hit a pair of free throws and a layupto push the Panthers ahead 66-60 with seven seconds to go.
Wabash's Andy Root drained a long three-pointer with three seconds left. However, O'Leary converted two free throws with two seconds left to end the threat and seal Hanover's seventh straight win against the Little Giants.

Half-court shot at buzzer clips Panthers
Webster University's Ryan Turk drained a half-court shot at the buzzer to lift the Gorloks to a 51-49 victory against Hanover College's men's basketball team. The game, part of the Help the Homeless Classic, was played Saturday, Nov. 17, in St. Louis, Mo.
Senior guard Clint Parker (Brownstown, Ind.) led Hanover with 14 points, including a jumper with 2.4 seconds remaining to give the Panthers a 49-48 lead.
Senior guard Brock Dawson (West Lafayette, Ind.) added nine points for Hanover (1-1).
Webster (2-0) shot 68 percent from the field in the second half (13-of-19). The Gorloks outscored the Panthers 11-2 during a four-minute stretch and snagged a 46-45 lead on a three-pointer by Turk with just 1:28 remaining.
The squads exchanged the lead four times in the closing 34 seconds.
Parker scored four points to key an 8-0 run to help Hanover grab a 22-16 lead at the half. The Panthers later pushed the margin to 10 points (32-22) on a three-pointer by junior forward Dan O'Leary (Terre Haute, Ind.) with 12:40 to play.

Hoops season opens with win vs. Denison
Four seniors combined for 50 points to lead Hanover College's men's basketball squad to a 63-51 victory against Denison University (Ohio) in the opening game of the 2007-08 campaign. The outing was played as part of the Help the Homeless Classic, Friday, Nov. 16, in St. Louis, Mo.
Senior center Robby Brown (Cincinnati, Ohio) scored 14 points and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds to spark Hanover (1-0). Senior guard Clint Parker (Brownstown, Ind.) netted 14 points and dished out five assists.
Senior swingman Marc O'Leary (Terre Haute, Ind.) scored 13 points, while classmate Brock Dawson (West Lafayette, Ind.) added nine points and four assists for the Panthers.
Hanover opened a 20-6 lead midway through the first period. Denison (0-1) outscored the Panthers 7-0 in the final four minutes of the half to shave the cushion to 29-23 at the break.
Denison trailed by just four points (48-44) with five and one-half minutes left. Brown, who scored 10 points in the second half, made back-to-back shots from inside to help the Panthers mount a 55-47 lead with 3:30 to go.
Hanover hit 6-of-6 free throws in the final 46 seconds to hold on for the win.

Coaches pick Hanover fourth in HCAC race
Hanover College’s men’s basketball squad has been picked to place fourth in the chase for the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference’s 2008 championship.
Hanover, under head coach Mike Beitzel, received 52 points in a balloting of the HCAC’s nine head coaches. The Panthers, which finished with a 14-11 overall record in 2006-07, return nine letterwinners and all five starters from last season.
Seniors Robby Brown (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Marc O’Leary (Terre Haute, Ind.) each all-Heartland Conference honors last season and led the Panthers in scoring.
Brown, a 6-foot-8 center, shot 55 percent from the field and averaged 13.0 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. O’Leary, a 6-foot-3 swingman, scored 13.0 points per outing and added 2.5 boards per game. He shot better than 42 percent from long range.
Franklin College is the preseason favorite to win the Heartland Conference crown. The Grizzlies, 16-10 overall last season, earned 75 points in the coaches poll, including five first-place votes. Defiance College (Ohio) was right behind with 73 points. The Yellow Jackets, under former Hanover standout Jon Miller, earned three first-place votes.
Hanover opens its season Friday, Nov. 16, on the road against Denison University (Ohio) in St. Louis, Mo. The Panthers’ home debut will be Monday, Nov. 19, against Wabash College.

Youth hoops tourney slated for Jan. 5
The Hanover College men's basketball program will host its 11th annual Little Panther Tournament, Saturday, Jan. 5, in Collier Arena.

The event features both boys' and girls' tournaments for third/fourth grade teams, fifth/sixth grade teams, seventh grade teams and eighth grade teams. Participating teams are guaranteed a minimum of two games in the event.
